One Sunday morning several years ago our family was driving to church as usual. Our two oldest daughters, Tess and Brooke, were around ages four and six at that time. Kathy and I were in the front seat and the girls were in the back. The girls were always singing, and this day was no different. They sang as we travelled down the road, in unison. Suddenly, from the back seat we heard one of the girls begin to harmonize with the other. Kathy and I became very excited, and immediately began working with the girls on nurturing a harmonizing ear and voice.
We sang at home and in the car going down the road, always trying to bring in a second and even a third harmony part. The girls loved it, and it was not work to them. Pretty soon, as the girls became more and more comfortable with the sound of their own voices harmonizing, they would sing together casually doing whatever they did around the house in harmony. I vividly recall watching them sit in the floor playing with their toys singing songs like "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" in harmony as they played, oblivious to the fact that they were even doing it.
As time went on, our family began singing publicly in our home church, Union Chapel Baptist, near Greensburg, KY. After a while, people began asking us to sing in revivals and homecomings, and God has expanded on those opportunities to bring us to where we are today. Our Heavenly Father has been so good to us! He has allowed us to grow and work for Him. We understand and appreciate the fact that we are nothing without Christ, and are totally dependent upon Him, even for the next beat of our hearts. Please pray for us as we travel and sing for our Lord that we will be workers in the vineyards of this day, and that we will make a difference in the lives of others, always pointing them to Him.
We thought it would be fun to share with you some of the "favorites" and experiences of each member of the Milby Family so that you can get to know us better...

| Unusual Happening At A Singing: | We were driving to a singing at Belmont Baptist Church near Lebanon Junction, KY. About five miles before we arrived, Grace said in a casual voice, "Those shoes don't match that outfit, Tess." I had on a white shirt and a pink skirt; my shoes, however, were blue, dirty, light-up flip-flops that I wore in the garden! I had a fit trying to get my Dad to turn around and buy me some matching shoes, but he insisted on going on to the church to get tuned up. After tuning all instruments, we had about 40 minutes to spare, but there was one slight problem--the only store close enough was Family Dollar, 10 miles away. With lots of rushing around and breaking the speed limit, we made it back with five minutes to spare. Talk about a close call! | |

| Unusual Happening At A Singing: | One night we were going to sing in Green Co., KY, and had just pulled up to the church. As soon as the van came to a stop, I jumped out and ran to the door. Since I was the first one there, I had to hold it open for everyone. As soon as I grabbed the handle, I felt a sharp pain on my finger (I almost screamed). As it turns out, a wasp built his nest inside the door handle, and when I tried to open the door I must have touched his nest. He stung me. Luckily, the church had some band-aids, and a man in the congregation had some chewing tobacco in his pocket. He told me that tobacco juice is good for bee stings. So I had to sing in front of all those people with a very sore finger and some very stinky tobacco juice on my hand. | |

| Unusual Happening At A Singing: | At a church called Jackson Hills, I had just finished playing my fiddle and was stepping away from the microphone so that my sister, Tess, could play her guitar. As I was walking away, the end of Tess's guitar got tangled up in my hair. Everyone laughed, but I didn't mind very much. | |

| Unusual Happening At A Singing: | Robin sat down at the piano and played the intro to a song. His microphone kept tilting down--it would not stay in position! I had to run over and hold the microphone for him through the whole song. Oh, and by the way, I was between him and the congregation and couldn't move the entire time. Talk about wanting to be invisible! | |

| Unusual Happening At A Singing: | When I was about 16 or 17 years old, I attended a small, country church in Hart Co., KY. I was a very inexperienced piano player at the time. One day a man got up to sing a song (his first name was Mutt, and he had a funny looking hairdo). He asked me if I knew such-and-such song, and I said no. He decided to sing it anyway. I spent the whole song trying to play along with him. It was a complete, humiliating disaster. However, I can laugh about it now. Such episodes were great learning experiences for a young piano player. | |
